Tioga County, New York

The Tioga County Flood Mitigation Group is multiple agencies and municipalities working in collaboration to address various flooding issues in the communities of Tioga County. It was formed in direct response to the June 2006 flood, as well as frequent previous flood events. Current participants include Tioga County Planning Department, Tioga County Soil & Water District, Tioga County Emergency Management Office, CCE of Tioga County, Town of Owego and Village of Owego. The group would welcome participation from other municipalities.

The Group’s mission is to work with all communities in Tioga County to help answer questions on flooding needs, and as feasible, assist in the acquisition of necessary funds to systematically update and implement the Tioga County All Hazards Mitigation Plan, including a variety of safeguards to communities and individuals from flood risks to the extent that is practically achievable. Additionally, to consider and promote flooding issues on a watershed level for the entire Upper Susquehanna River Basin.
