CONGRESSIONAL CHANGES FOR TIOGA COUNTY- Congressional changes are happening in Tioga County. The redistricting eliminates two seats from New York State in the U.S. House of Representatives. The plan redraws the outline of the 22nd Congressional District currently represented by Democrat Maurice Hinchey. He will retire at the end of this term and the draft essentially eliminates the current boundaries of that district. Tompkins and most of Tioga County will be included in the new 23rd Congressional District. A smaller portion of Tioga County remains in the 22nd Congressional District which includes most of Nichols and a section of Owego. All of Tioga County remains in the 52nd New York State Senate District. Under the new plan the entire county is in the 124th Assembly District.
The Primaries taking place on June 26th and September 13th will determine the candidates to be voted on in the General Election on November 6th. The winners of the General Elections will take these offices starting January 2013. Please visit our Election District Map to see more detailed information and to see how the redistricting affects you.
