Tioga County Public Health partnered with Serafini Transportation on August 30th to train 40 bus drivers and bus monitors in proper child safety restraint systems on school buses. Serafini provides transportation for many agencies in the Southern Tier; specializing in transportation of pre-school age and children with disabilities. Tioga County Public Health relies on Serafini to safely transport children in Pre-School Special Education programs.
Employees at Serafini sat through a training that included the importance of child passenger safety, how to properly install a car seat on the bus, and how to correctly restrain a child in a 5-point harness. Employees then went out and did installations on a school bus and in a van to ensure that everyone could properly install a car seat and safely transport pre-school children.
Heather Vroman, Community Health Program Supervisor says “this was a great opportunity to make sure bus drivers and monitors who transport children in our pre-school program are capable of correctly using and installing car seats to make children in our program as safe as possible with every trip they take on the bus.”
