Town
of Berkshire
The Town of Berkshire consists of 30.22 square miles and is located
in the northeast section of the County. It is bordered by the Town
of Richford to the north, Broome County to the east, the Town of
Newark Valley to the south, and Tompkins County to the west. The
2000 Census stated that the population was 1,366. The hamlet of
Berkshire on Route 38 has the small town USA charm with its skyline
of multiple church steeples. A new civic improvement organization
has rightfully named themselves B.R.A.G., which stands for Berkshire
Residents Action Group, because they have a lot to be proud of with
its rural setting and high quality of life. Berkshire was recently
featured on an area tour for a national conference on rural development
sponsored by Cornell's Community and Rural Development Institute.
You can find out more about the Town of Berkshire on their website.
