Town
of Tioga
The Town of Tioga consists of 58.68 square miles and is located
in the center of the County. The Susquehanna River forms the southern
border, the Town and Village of Owego are to the east, the Town
of Candor to the north, and the Town of Barton to the west. The
2000 Census says that the population was 4,840 and the primary industry
is agriculture. Tioga Central School located in the hamlet of Tioga
Center along NYS Route 17C prides itself in offering high quality
education with first-class facilities in a rural setting. The Town
recently acquired the privately owned Ransom Park as a public park
that hosts many community picnics and the annual Pipe Creek Parade.
The Tioga Centre General Store on 17C in Tioga Center is a throwback
to a bygone era and now offers reasonably priced antiques. In addition
to Tioga Center, Smithboro, Halsey Valley, and Straits Corners are
the Town's other hamlets.
