Overdose Awareness Day

Last Updated: Wednesday, August 30, 2017

August 31st is International National Overdose Awareness Day. Tioga County Allies in Substance
Abuse Prevention Coalition is hosting an event on Saturday, September 2nd from 9:30 am – 3:00
pm at the Tioga County Fair Grounds for Overdose Awareness Day and to kick off National
Addiction Month. Christina Olevano, Trinity-CASA Prevention Supervisor shared, “This event is a
way for people to remember all of those we have lost to drug overdoses of all kinds. It is important
to raise awareness of the tens of thousands of people who have lost their lives to drug
overdose, while at the same time re-enforce the need for increasing knowledge about substance
abuse, decreasing addiction stigma, and creating a culture of compassion for those in active
addiction.”

This event is free and open to the public, and is a great way for families to come out and enjoy a
substance-free event together. Naloxone (Narcan) trainings and kits will be given during the
September 2nd event. These kits include two doses of Naloxone, which is used to reverse an opioid
overdose, gloves, a face mask, and alcohol wipes. For more information about the event, please
call Christina Olevano at 607-223-4066.

If you are unable to attend Saturday’s event, Tioga County Public Health offers free Naloxone
trainings and kits to all residents. To schedule an appointment for Naloxone training, contact Kylie
Gates at 607-687-8612.
