Protect Yourself From Mosquito Bites

Last Updated: Thursday, June 1, 2017

The month of June is upon us and so is Mosquito Season! These insects are mostly just a nuisance but they also could be very harmful. Mosquitoes carry diseases such as Zika and West Nile virus. But luckily there are several ways to protect yourself and your home!

Tip # 1 Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants.

Tip # 2 Use insect repellent.

Tip # 3 Keep mosquitoes out of your home; make sure windows and door screens are installed and free of holes. Do not prop your doors and use air conditioning when possible.

Tip # 4 Mosquitoes lay eggs near water; never leave standing water outside! Water can collect in many places around your home including flower pots, kiddie pools, tires, buckets, birdbaths, pet dishes, and trash containers.

Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, just remember to keep yourself and your home protected! For more information or if you have any questions, call Tioga County Health Department at 687-8600 or check us out on Facebook!
