On December 8th, Owego Gardens hosted presenters from Tioga County Public Health, Owego Fire Department, and Tioga County Red Cross to learn how to prepare for, and what to do in case of an emergency. Owego Fire Chief Dan Gavin explained, “The more prepared you are, the easier it is for us to help you in an emergency.”
Residents received mini “go-kits” with items helpful in an emergency, plus forms to complete that help first responders assist them during an emergency. Emily Warfle, Tioga County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator shared, “It is important to have a plan for communications, sheltering-in-place, and evacuation.” Red Cross representative Sandra Smith shared important information about what happens during an emergency. Residents learned about what to expect if you are evacuated to a shelter and the importance of writing down medications and phone numbers in case cell phones do not work.
