Complaint Form

Tioga County Weights and Measures' mission is to protect the customer and the business by ensuring fair trade in the marketplace. The department verifies accuracy in all commercial transactions involving weight, measure, count, or price.

  Weights & Measures

All commercial weighing and measuring devices are inspected at least once a year using certified standards. Weights and Measures' staff visit businesses to test scales, fuel pumps, meters, timing devices, and measuring devices. Every commercial device must follow New York State Agriculture and Markets Laws and Regulations (Article 16) and be approved for use by Tioga County Weights and Measures. When approved for use, the device will be marked with a blue or yellow seal that confirms the most recent date of inspection.

When a complaint is received due to discrepancy in price, Tioga County Weights and Measures conducts price-accuracy audits as required by NYS Article 16, Section 197-b.
